Our tour starts with a visit to the Benedictine Abbey of Cava de’ Tirreni. Built in 1011, this is the only monastery in the world that has always been inhabited by Benedictine Monks. The tour allow you to visit the Cathedral, the Library, the Roman Cloister, the Catacombs, and its small Museum. After the tour, we begin our trek towards Mount Avvocata.
Trekking Mount Avvocata on the Amalfi Coast is a classic route combining breathtaking views over the Amalfi Coast and the Gulf of Salerno with the search for the divine. Every Monday after Pentecost, the sanctuary is reached by thousands of pilgrims, from Cava and Maiori, to renew their devotion to the Virgin Mary.
We start at 380 meters above sea level hiking through chestnut woods, oak forests, with views of olive groves, lemon trees, and pastures in the Mediterranean bush. The trail leads over a rocky ridge to the west from which you will arrive at the top of Mount Avvocata at 1014 meters above sea level. There you will reach the Sanctuary, take in the views, and rest before heading back down.
