for nature enthusiasts and hikers

The hike to Monte Cervati is a journey through diverse landscapes, ranging from lush forests to open meadows, with panoramic views. The trail is known for its varying difficulty levels, accommodating both novice and experienced hikers. As you ascend, you’ll be surrounded by the beauty of the Cilento National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The trail takes you through beech and chestnut forests, where the air is crisp and the scent of pine fills your senses. The rich flora and fauna make the hike a delight for those who appreciate the wonders of the natural world. Keep an eye out for the diverse bird species, and maybe even catch a glimpse of the local wildlife.

One of the highlights of the hike is reaching the summit, where you’ll be rewarded with a stunning panoramic view of the surrounding landscapes. The Tyrrhenian Sea sparkles in the distance, and on a clear day, you might even see the Amalfi Coast. It’s the kind of view that makes you forget about the fatigue of the hike, and appreciate the grandeur of nature.

At the top, there’s the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Nevi (Our Lady of Snow): The Madonna delle Nevi is a fascinating figure and her presence on Mount Cervati adds a touch of sacredness and beauty to the already majestic mountain range. The devotion to this Madonna is deeply rooted in the culture and spirituality of the area.
Legend has it that in the distant past, during a heavy snowfall on Mount Cervati, a strange light illuminated the top of the mountain. The shepherds, amazed by this divine spectacle, discovered an image of the Madonna in the snow. This extraordinary event gave rise to the cult of the Madonna delle Nevi.
The small church built in honor of the Madonna delle Nevi became a place of pilgrimage, attracting faithful from all over the surrounding area. The devotion to Our Lady of Snow is particularly intense during the winter, when the snow covers the mountain and creates a suggestive landscape.
The place is not only a spiritual sanctuary but also a haven of peace and serenity, where visitors can enjoy the beauty of nature and find inspiration in faith. The Madonna delle Nevi on Mount Cervati therefore represents a union between the majesty of nature and the spirituality of Marian devotion.

Another magical touch to this hike is represented by the Refuge, at 1,500 metres, where you can spend the night, in front of the fireplace and admire the beauty of the sky at night, in the middle of nowhere.
