DISCOVERY OF MATERA & BASILICATA

5 Days / 4 Nights

Discover the lesser-known Basilicata region of Southern Italy. We visit the mountain villages of Pietrapertosa and Castelmezzano, both part of “Italy’s Most Beautiful Villages” Association. We then make our way to the Sassi of Matera, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the 2019 European Capital of Culture.

Castelmezzano is our base for two nights from which you can participate in a number of activities: hiking, rock-climbing, walking trails, cooking classes, exploring medieval castles. Or, you can experience one of the longest and highest zip lines in the world: the Volo dell’Angelo. There will be free time to relax, meet local people, and enjoy regional cuisine.

We then head to Basilicata wine country where we enjoy lunch at a vineyard with a ninth-century crypt. Afterwards, we arrive in spectacular Matera for a guided tour. We will spend two nights in Matera where you will have a free day to explore its stairways, narrow lanes, cave-houses carved out of tufa, and rock churches with beautiful frescoes.
