Welcome to Apulia!
We depart Bari to begin our journey in Basilicata wine country with a guided vineyard tour and wine tasting with lunch.
After lunch, we drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Matera, known as the City of Stones, with Sassi that are ancient homes carved right into the tufa rock. With a local expert guide we will explore the narrow streets that wind their way through the Sassi to discover the ancient houses and churches carved from stone.
We then reach our base for the next two nights, the agricultural village of Alberobello, where you will have an opportunity to sleep in a traditional “trullo”. The Trulli of Alberobello, thanks to their unique characteristics and historical significance, are one of Puglia’s two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
In the evening we will enjoy a traditional Murgia cuisine dinner with a selection of local wines.

This morning we have an in-depth walking tour of Alberobello to learn more about Trulli houses and their history. Afterwards, time for lunch in a local restaurant.
In the afternoon we visit the underground wonder of the Castellana Caves where we will have a two-hour guided walk through the different natural rock formations
Return to Alberobello for the night with free time to have dinner on your own.

Short morning drive to Martina Franca to visit the Palazzo Ducale and the Cathedral. After our visit we head to a local Masseria to participate in a cheesemaking demonstration where we will also have lunch.
In the early afternoon we reach the city of Lecce, also known as “Baroque Florence”. Lecce is the artistic and cultural capital of Puglia with an ancient university and important monuments.
With a local expert guide we will discover the history and culture of Lecce.
In the evening we will have dinner at a local osteria to enjoy more regional specialties.

Today we drive to Otranto, the heel of the Italian boot, and visit a magnificent cathedral with an incredible collection of mosaic scenes.
We then drive to a local vineyard for a wine tasting before heading to the charming village of Castro for lunch in a local trattoria.
After lunch we enjoy a walk around Castro with a stop at a beautiful viewpoint before returning to Lecce.

We drive to Gallipoli, “beautiful town ” in Greek, where we visit a stunning cathedral and the Frantoio Ipogeo – an ancient underground olive mill carved from stone.
Free time to explore the old town and enjoy a lunch at a local restaurant. Enjoy a selection of fresh seafood: clams, mussels, cockles, oysters, tartufo di mare (rough-shell clams), and sea urchins. All accompanied with a piece of homemade bread and a glass of wine, of course!
After lunch we drive to one of Puglia’s hidden gems to visit a stunning local church with frescoes.
Return to Lecce and enjoy a free evening.
In the morning we drive to Ostuni, “La Città Bianca”, one of the most beautiful hilltop towns in all of Italy. Stroll through a maze of narrow streets with an option to visit a local museum exhibiting the remains of Delia, a pregnant woman who lived 25,000 years ago.

In the afternoon we drive to Cisternino to visit an original olive oil mill.
We then drive to Polignano a Mare and visit the charming historical center.
Short drive to return to Bari and check in to our hotel.

Today we visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Castel del Monte for a guided tour of the Swabian Castle. Known for its octagonal shape, it is a masterpiece of medieval architecture.
Short drive to Trani and lunch at a local restaurant.
Visit the Cathedral of Trani, built just on the edge of the sea; will then go into the Swebian Castle and then return to our hotel in Bari.
Farewell dinner at a local restaurant.
