Grottoes of Castelcivita / Full-Day Tour
Join GoinItaly on our full-day tour of the rustic hilltop village of Castelcivita and the Grottoes of Castelcivita.
Castelcivita’s caves lie near Cilento’s National Park in the province of Salerno. It is one of the largest speleological areas in Southern Italy with underground cave systems known as “Devil Caves”, “Spartacus Caves”, or “Prince of Piemonte Caves”.
In 1972, following many speleological explorations, Castelcivita caves earned paleontological prominence with the discovery of fossil remains and prehistoric stone tools showing evidence of humans dating back to 40,000 years ago.
Inside the caves of Castelcivita the enchantment of a surreal active underground landscape of forming stalactites and stalagmites attracts visitors throughout the year.
After touring the caves, we enjoy lunch at a local trattoria in the hilltop village of Castelcivita and then a guided walking tour.
