Our GoinItaly tour takes you around the Basilicata region in Southern Italy. First you will visit the area of the Gallipoli Cognato National Park where the so-called Little Dolomites are located and then continue to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Matera.

You’ll be able to enjoy two of Italy’s most beautiful villages, Pietrapertosa and Castelmezzano, where you can choose from a number of activities: trekking, rock-climbing, walking trails, cooking classes, zip-lines, or tour medieval castles. Also, there will be free time to wander, meet local people, and enjoy local food.

In Matera we visit a local vineyard to enjoy a wine tasting and lunch. Also, we will explore the vineyard’s “Cave of Original Sin”, with frescoes from the eighth century.

Our in-depth walking tour of Matera will uncover the history of the “Sassi” with free time to explore the 2019 European Capital of Culture.


Drive to Pietrapertosa, located 3 hours away from Naples,  visit the village and enjoy an included lunch.

We then drive to Castelmezzano, situated on the other part of the valley, where we will spend two nights in a local B&B.

We’ll have an included dinner at a local osteria.

Today you can choose between different optional activities: trekking, walking around on your own, doing a cooking class, relaxing in the main square, or taking the challenge of the Flight of the Angel: two zip-lines connecting the villages of Pietrapertosa and Castelmezzano

After breakfast, we’ll depart from Castelmezzano and drive to a local winery. Once there, we’ll have a guided tour of the “Cave of Original Sin”, with  frescoes from the VIII Century, and then return to the winery where we’ll enjoy a wine tasting with lunch.

In half an hour we reach our destination for the next two nights: Matera,  a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known as the “City of Stones,” with Sassi that are ancient homes carved right into the tufa rock.

We will explore the narrow streets that wind their way through the Sassi, to discover the churches carved from stone and find out about the history of this amazing town.

You will have some free time before an included group dinner.

After breakfast, with an expert English-speaking guide, we’ll learn more about the history and see how people used to live since prehistoric times.

Time for an included lunch and then you’ll have the freedom to explore further the Sassi on your own.

After breakfast,  we leave Matera and in ah hour we’ll reach the ghost town of Craco, for a guided tour of the village .
