This tour will take you around the Basilicata region, in Southern Italy, first visiting the area of the Gallipoli Cognato National Park, where the so called Little Dolomites are located, and then moving to Matera and its Sassi.

You’ll be able to explore Pietrapertosa and Castelmezzano, listed as two of Italy’s most beautiful villages, where there are a lot of activities like trekking, rock-climbing, easy walking trails, cooking classes, zip-lines, medieval castles, wander around and meet local people.

Moving to Matera, you’ll visit a local vineyard, have lunch and taste some of their wines, exploring the cave with frescoes of the Original Sin.

With a local english speaking guide, you’ll be discovering the history of the “Sassi” (stones, in italian), where people was living since prehistory times, and have free time to discover further.


Drive to Pietrapertosa, located 3 hours away from Naples, and visit the village and have an included lunch.

We, then, move to Castelmezzano, situated on the other part of the valley, where we’ll spent 2 nights, in a nice B&B.

We’ll have an included dinner, at a local osteria.

Today you can choose between different activities: trekking, walking around on your own, doing a cooking class, relaxing in the main square, or taking the challenge of the Flight of the Angel: 2 zip-lines connecting the villages of Pietrapertosa and Castelmezzano

After breakfast, we’ll depart from Castelmezzano and drive to the winery; once there, we’ll have a guided tour of the cave with the Original Sin frescoes and once back at the winery, we’ll enjoy a wine-tasting with lunch.

In half an hour we’ll reach our destinations for the next 2 nights: Matera,  a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known as the City of Stones, with Sassi that are ancient homes carved right into the tufa rock.

We will explore the narrow streets that wind their way through the Sassi, to discover the churches carved from stone; you’ll have some free time before an included dinner all together.

After breakfast, with a local english speaking guide, we’ll learn about the history of this place and see how people was use to live around here, since prehistory time.

Time for an included lunch and then you’ll have the freedom to explore further the city and the Sassi, on your own.
