This Amalfi Coast hike starts with a guided visit to the 11th-century Benedictine Abbey of Cava de’ Tirreni. In the Middle Ages, it was one of the most important and powerful religious and cultural centers in southern Italy. It is the only monastery in the world that has been continuously inhabited by Benedictine Monks for over one thousand years. The tour allows you to visit the Cathedral, the Roman Cloister, the Catacombs, and its small Museum. After the tour, we begin our trek towards Mount Avvocata.
Hiking Mount Avvocata is a classic route with stunning views over the Gulf of Salerno and the Amalfi Coast. Every Monday, after the Christian holiday of Pentecost, the Monastery is reached by thousands of pilgrims to renew their devotion to the Virgin Mary.
With our hike, we walk through chestnut woods, oak forests, with olive groves, lemon trees, and pastures in the Mediterranean bush. The trail leads over a rocky ridge to the west, from which you will arrive at the top of Mount Avvocata. There you will reach the Sanctuary, take in the views and rest, before heading back down.
Return transfer to hotel or drop-off point.
